I Live There Now

I am in my mother's room. It's I who live there now.
(Samuel Beckett, Malloy)

I Live There Now is a trio of small-scale works, completed in 2012, that, like his earlier series Revisitations, Rodick created as pictures installed in unique handmade wooden cases crafted expertly by woodworkers Jim and Kathy Sawada. They come from photographs Rodick took during a single visit—his last—to the house that was home to his parents for 41 years and where he grew up. Filled to bursting with books, pictures, documents, and magazines—his parents were booksellers, of all things printed, their house a warehouse and emporium more than anything else—this setting was formative in the development of Rodick’s life and sensibility.
